When a young refugee from Congo walked in to our Christmas Dinner in December of 2006, all of a sudden refugee involvement moved from the idea stage to the action stage. As we heard the life stories of our new friends who had just recently travelled the refugee highway, our hearts were broken and touched. As a congregation we decided that we needed to get involved with this critical ministry. We have sought to provide assistance in a variety of ways to those who have made K-W their home and we have agreed to sponsor others. In order to raise awareness and funds for our Sponsorships, we have often taken part in the Ride For Refuge
We were delighted in July of 2013 when “our” family arrived after a five year process. With tears, laughter and shouts of “Hallelujah” we greeted Pastor John and his wife Esperance, their six children and also Innocent Tumusifu, at the Toronto Airport. Since that time we have seen additional refugees from the Congo arrive in Canada and call Glen Acres their home.
